Today was Ty's first day in 4th grade and Jacey's first day in 5th grade.

Jacey got a new alarm clock and got up on her own this morning. She was already dressed and brushing her hair when I went up to wake up Ty. They had requested "breakfast pie" for breakfast so I got up a little early and had that ready for them.
Jacey is at the Middle School this year and will be changing classes so she was a little nervous. I remember those days of hoping I could get my locker open and everything I needed in time to get to class before the tardy bell rang. It was hard just dropping her off this morning and not being able to walk with her to class. This was her walking up by herself as we drove off.

Thankfully we could still walk in with Ty at the elementary. He got a big hug from the principal at the door and got right to work organizing his things when he got in his room. I heard him telling Jacey a few nights ago that his goal this year was no marks and straight A's. We'll see.
I'm ready for them to be home already and hear all about their day. I have the cookies ready and the table cleared off.
This is the first year I have actually missed teaching enough to consider possibly going back one day. Ty says no and Jacey says as long as I'm in her building. I think being at the middle school around the kids a little closer to the age I taught has something to do with it. There is something very special about the middle/junior high age! (and all ages of course)

I hope the first six weeks at the middle school has been positive. Let me know if you are serious about returning to teaching.
